A nineteen year old college freshman from Georgia shocked himself almost as
much as he shocked hundred of top European poker players with his win of the
European Poker Tour in Monaco. Jeff Williams, the mild mannered and slender
underdog, admits that he needs a bit of a break from poker after the two
thousand different hands of poker that he played while cranking through the
tournament, "Two thousand hands, and everyone of them I could have gone broke
on, I really had to pay attention."
Jeff admits that he has no idea what he behaved like in his winning poker
moment and will have to see clips on TV in order to tell. His winning hand was
not a blush and he actually had the advantage of having played his opponent at
online poker previously. he let us in on his state of mind in the final moment, "I knew he was very aggressive and I knew he would go all in. I had only bet
a third of my chips, so even if I lost that hand, I would still have a shot."
Jeff's safe and managed approach to the game ended up being the winning
element in his play strategy. But he does have to give credit for his wise
playing approach to the rearing of his parents who felt it was important for
their kids to be well informed and familiar with the pros and cons involved with
the consequences of their behavior. "Basically, we've tried to make them look at
the consequences of their behavior, whether it was good or bad, But basically my
biggest piece of gambling advice was to never wager more than you can lose." Her
advice stuck, and Jeff entered the competition on PokerStars.com with only forty
dollars, so clearly his investment paid off when he won the million dollar prize
pot.
