A small town in Orangeburg County in middle America is having some trouble
with video gaming machines, at one time the machines were legal and that is why
it is now presenting a problem for the local law enforcement to remove the
thousand of now illegal video gaming machines from the public. Slowly but surely
the police are confiscating the video slot machines and holding them where they
will then be destroyed after a trial.
One such of the locations where video gaming machines were confiscated was an
actual residence that had been converted into a gambling house with certain
rooms for people who could smoke while playing their video gaming machines and
others for those who did not smoke. The house was raid after a neighbor had
reported a series of suspicious activity taking place at the location. When
officers investigated they found that the house was operating with a thirty
percent hold percentage and releasing only seventy percent of the wagers
back to be won.
In 1999 the state's legislature passed a bill to prohibit video gaming at the
start of July in the next year. Since the enforcement of this decision was made
the state's authorities have successfully removed twenty-two thousand of the
newly banned video gaming machines. One officer share why he fells like the
situation is such a problem and how it will be best to over come it,
“When video poker was legal, a lot of people got hooked on
it, I’m sure a number of those people found their way to these locations. And we
encourage our citizens to be involved and report any suspected criminal activity
to law enforcement or Crime Stoppers at 888-832-7463.”
