North Las Vegas has just had another huge real estate development deal go
through, in an area that has been growing at a frantic pace for quite some time now. the
latest purchase was made by the Boyd gaming Corporation for a forty acre stretch
of land which has been zoned for casino and business development, and paid a
little less than a million dollars an acre, $35 million. they plan to build a
full service casino hotel on the property at the start of early next year.
Bill Boyd, CEO of Boyd Gaming Corp. clarified the location and fortunate
aspects of the property, "the site is very well situated
in a major growth corridor in the northwest part of Las Vegas with a location
that is a perfect complement to, and not in conflict with, our other properties
that serve Las Vegas locals." This development is not the only "full service
casino hotel" that is being built nearby however, Station Casino Inc., a
competitor to Boyd, is also in the process of building a similar project about
five miles away and is slated to open its doors in the middle of 2008.
Yet even though it sounds likely a recipe for some nasty competition, the two
companies both agree that in an are like Las Vegas where five mile of dense
housing is quite a bit of per capital distance, they do not think either casino
will have any shortage of patronage. Boyd also runs several other casinos
including the Stardust located on the strip, the Coast casinos in the Las Vegas
area, and is also the co-owner of the increasingly popular Atlantic City Casino
that just had a record breaking January, the Borgata Hotel Spa & Casino.
