Colorado officials are not pleased with the advertising taking place in their
state by online casino GoldenPalace gambling group. According to state law it is
illegal to place bets at an online casino, yet commercially for Goldenpalace.com
have been sighted at the Pepsi Center as well as on the local television
networks. the attorney general is in the process of making a case of the fact
that if the activity is illegal in the state then why is the state allowing
advertisements for the activity to take place in a public forum, and that it
violates the customer protection laws of the state.
Thought the activity of betting at online casino is growing in huge number it
is still considered illegal in not only Colorado but in almost every single
other state in the US. the state attorney general, John Suthers, elaborates of
the quandary of prohibiting a widely practiced illegal act, "I think we need to
contact the owners of the Pepsi Center and indicate that online betting through
Goldenpalace is illegal. Internet gaming, despite the fact that it takes place
with such incredible volume, is illegal in Colorado and virtually every other
state."
In an attempt to make those more aware of the implications of promoting this
type of illegal advertising the attorney general's office issued a notice
explaining their responsibility, "Accepting and airing these advertisements in
furtherance of illegal activity could in fact constitute violations of Colorado
and federal law." When the head of the Pepsi Center responded it was obvious
that they felt it best to play the dumb card, "We have been assured that Golden
Palace does not engage in sports betting and, like many other media outlets in
Colorado, have entered into these advertising agreements believing them to be
legitimate."
