Lord of the Rings Campaign
Phase 1
Leading to the First Battle of Flatlandius.
Rules:
For the Campaign:
Goal to build an army for FlatCon.
- Choose Free Peoples or Forces of
Darkness, then choose a race. We
can have multiple players of any given race.
- 75% of the number of models must be of your
race
ridden mounts do not count against number of models
- up to 33% of the number of models
may have range attacks (includes throwing spears)
- No armies may combine Free People
and Forces of Darkness
- No "named" heroes, includes
Ringwraiths, Kings of Men, and Dwarf Kings
- Captains and Chieftains are
available, see races.
- You must have one "captain"
- named for storyline purposes
- background story optional, but
rewarded
- can gain experience in each
encounter
- if the "captain" dies, you may
replace, but experience is gone (you start over)
- Captains are protected - if
multiple figures are involved in combat with a captain on
the same side, the captain is last to receive wounds -
same with groups and range attacks
- Army rosters carry over from
encounter to encounter
- Casualties - d6 roll for each
figure to determine survival, failed rolls are removed
from roster
- 1 if route
- 1-2 if draw
- 1-4 if victor
- Players must have their own figures
(though they can be borrowed)
- Try to limit proxies. It is
just simpler to play with WSIWYG. You are not limited to
using figures from just one company. Variety is
encourage, but so is staying true to Middle Earth.
- Using house rule for Weapons and
Shield costs - weapons.

FAQ:
- What do you mean by "painted" figures
for army paint bonuses?
Just that. A completed (depending on skill level)
figure. Should include base. Doesn't matter who
painted the figures you are playing with for the "paint
bonuses".
- What about playing two armies - one
free and one dark?
Not this first go around.
- What about siege
equipment (bombs, ballista, catapults, ladders, …)? Scene 4
will use siege rules. Until then siege equipment should not
be apart of your forces.
- What if my Captain
dies, even after the casualty rule? You need to buy a new
captain, who via the storyline rises from your rooster’s
ranks.
What if I lose my entire force? You may start the game
over, just like a new player.
